GARDINER — Spectrum Generations Family Caregiver Support Program will provide a six-week Maine Savvy Caregiver training at the Alzheimer’s Care Center.
Based on the idea family members often take on caregiving without preparation or training, participants learn what dementia is and how it affects the individual and develop skills on how to interact and communicate with a person with dementia, according to a news release from Spectrum Generations. Caregivers can find out where to go for resources and services to help support themselves, as well as the person with dementia.
This six-week course will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 19. Sessions include training, interactive exercises, and discussion. This training is free to the community.
Participants can build an attitude that fosters confidence and a sense of mastery in their caregiver role, feedback will be provided and strategies developed to support successful caregiving.
Pre-registration is required, for more information or to register, call 626-1770.
