As soon as New England’s Malcolm Butler secured the interception that gave the Patriots a 28-24 Super Bowl XLIX victory, NFL analysts and fans began labeling the decision to throw the football from the one yard line as “the worst play call – ever!”
From the immediate reaction of Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who bent at the waist and hung his head on the sideline, he likely didn’t disagree.
Carroll sat down with “Today” host Matt Lauer for a 20-minute interview that aired Thursday. The veteran coach admitted “It’s the worst result of a call ever,” but added that if quarterback Russell Wilson’s pass had resulted in a Seattle touchdown “nobody would have thought twice about it.”
