A Whitefield woman and a Mount Vernon man were injured Friday morning when the man’s Subaru Baja rear-ended the woman’s GMC Savana van while heading west on Route 17 in Windsor, according to a law enforcement official.
Kathleen Jackson, 46, of Whitefield, and Jon Matthews, 25, of Mount Vernon, were taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, said Sgt. Scott Mills, of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Jackson had pulled over to the side of road near the Whitefield line to fix her defroster, according to those who saw the accident, when Matthew’s vehicle drifted to the right and hit Jackson’s van, Mills said.
Matthews, who was not wearing a seat belt, had facial injuries from smashing a hole through his windshield, Mills said. Jackson was wearing a seat belt and was treated for neck pain and whiplash, he said.
Mills said no one was charged in the crash that was reported a little after 9 a.m. Drugs or alcohol didn’t appear to be factors, he said.
Mills didn’t know the condition of either driver, and a call to MaineGeneral Medical Center to check on the status of the drivers was not returned.
