AUGUSTA — Police Sunday afternoon released a surveillance photo of the man who robbed the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 2007 North Belfast Avenue Saturday night.
The robber was described as a male in a gray hoodie sweatshirt, with his face covered up, approximately six feet tall, according to Augusta police.
The robber left with an undisclosed amount of medication, according to Sgt. Vicente Morris.
Police got a call around 5:40 p.m. that there had been a robbery of the Rite Aid.
Police said the robber demanded drugs and mentioned harming the pharmacist, though it had not been confirmed whether he had a weapon.
It’s the first pharmacy robbery in Augusta since September, when the same Rite Aid was robbed, then another on Hospital Street was robbed 20 minutes later. Donald Pomerleau, 21, of Augusta, pleaded guilty to those robberies last month. Two others charged in those robberies have yet to go to court.
There were nine pharmacy robberies in Augusta in 2012, the highest for a municipality in the state. That year, there were a record 58 pharmacy robberies statewide.
The number of robberies dropped the past couple years as law enforcement cracked down, including harsher penalties and more federal law enforcement involvement.
