I would like to rebut a statement made in the March 7 article about the Franco-American program offered in Augusta, “Augusta Franco-American language program looks to future.”

Contrary to the article, I was never told to not speak French while a student in Lewiston. I have always been proud of my heritage and feel privileged to be bilingual. It has been gratifying to share this beautiful language with my grandson, Andrew, and I praise the people who understand how important it is for children to speak more than one language. I thank them for their commitment to this worthwhile program.
