SKOWHEGAN — Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream will open its five family-owned stands on Friday, March 20, the first day of spring. The Bangor and Farmington stands will open at 11 a.m. Auburn, Skowhegan and Waterville will greet their first customers at noon. Opening day at Gifford’s means free ice cream for customers. At each stand from 6 to 8 p.m., Gifford’s will treat customers to a free small (two scoop) cone. From opening day to April 5, Gifford’s will offer a small (two scoop) cone of any new flavor for only $1.99, according to a news release from Gifford’s.
“After such a cold and snowy winter, we are especially excited to open our stands and celebrate spring with our customers, ” said Lindsay Gifford-Skilling, fifth generation ice cream maker and general manager of Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream, in the news release. “The opening of our stands marks the beginning of ice cream season in Maine and the knowledge that the warm days of summer are ahead.”
