GARDINER — The Maine Association of Community Theaters will hold its 18th One-Act Play Festival Saturday, April 11, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center, 280 Water St. This annual festival is an opportunity for community theater enthusiasts to gather for a day of workshops, performances and networking.
Admission cost $15 per adult and $12 for seniors or students, which includes the morning workshops, lunch and all afternoon performances.
Two area theater professionals will lead this year’s workshops, which begin at 9 a.m.
David Greenham, who will provide commentary for afternoon performances, will lead an acting workshop Making Active Choices: The Little Things Do Matter. Dennis Price will offer his workshop on improvisation
The afternoon will offer showcase performances beginning at 1 p.m. by four area community theaters.
Open Book Players of Gardiner will perform “Return to Spoon River,” selections from “Spoon River Anthology” by Edgar Lee Masters.
Lamoine Community Arts will present “A Defenseless Creature” by Neil Simon.
Trenton Flats Theater Company will feature the return of Brent Hutchins, who kept everyone in stitches last year, with two more solo pieces of original Maine Downeast humor.
Aqua City Actors Theatre of Waterville will present two short contrasting pieces.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. the day of the festival at Johnson Hall.
