A six-week Living Well workshop series is set for 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, May 13 and 27, and Mondays in June at the Cohen Community Center, 22 Farm Road in Hallowell.
Across Kennebec County people are learning how to manage their chronic health conditions such as arthritis, high blood pressure, cancer, weight issues, depression, heart disease or diabetes, by participating in the Living Well Program. It is delivered in a series of classes taught by trained community members, many of whom have chronic conditions themselves, according to a news release from the centerr.
It’s a proven program, developed by Stanford University and supported by Spectrum Generations, according to the release. And it works. Participants have less pain, more energy and fewer hospitalizations. Discussions and activities focus on dealing with frustration, exercising at level of ability, working with healthcare provider, setting goals, and more. Participants are able to live the lives they want, and gain the ability and confidence to care for their condition.
