PITTSFIELD — “Reflections of the Civil War” with music, drama and food will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at First Universalist Church.

Attendees can celebrate Pittsfield’s Civil War heroes and reflect on the legacy of the War for its youth, town and lives today. The short play, “A Civil War Veteran Returns,” will be performed by two Maine Central Institute actors, according to a news release from Pittsfield Public Library.

MCI’s award-winning a cappella group Chameleon will sing Civil War ballads. People also will have an opportunity to meet re-enactors from the 20th Maine Co. B and taste Civil War era refreshments.

This event is presented as part of the community’s participation in the year-long project, “Local & Legendary: Maine in the Civil War,” a grant program funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and awarded by the Maine Historical Society and the Maine Humanities Council. Participating organizations include the Pittsfield Historical Society, the Pittsfield Public Library and Maine Central Institute in collaboration with Heart of Pittsfield and Mid-Maine Community Forum.
