Beverly Durrell of Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan was recognized April 17 during the Maine Health Care Association’s annual Remember Me recognition ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center. Thirty-two recipients from all over Maine had their photos displayed at the Augusta Civic Center while their lifetime achievement stories were read aloud to an audience that included friends, families and numerous staff members from many long term care facilities, according to a news release from the center. Ann LePage, Gov. Paul LePage’s wife, presented framed certificates of lifetime achievement.
Durrell was recognized for the many positive contributions she had made in the lives she had touched while working as a nurse’s aide at Redington Fairview General Hospital and Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan. Durrell’s passion is sewing. She also was recognized for the numerous quilts she had made and donated to the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta when she belonged to the Skowhegan Extension Club.
Durrell continues to sew from her room at Cedar Ridge Center and can be seen buzzing about the facility in her power wheelchair, flag waving above her with either a new project or homemade bingo bag in hand. She is member of the facilities Resident Council and a huge supporter of the Activities Department. Durrell tells everyone, “I feel I was put here for a reason and that reason is to make a difference and help people.”
