WINSLOW — Voters overwhelmingly approved a $14.2 million school budget Tuesday in a ballot referendum.

The spending plan was adopted by voters 76-7. About 1.4 percent of the town’s 5,806 registered voters turned out for the vote.

The budget was the subject of controversy earlier this year when the Town Council voted to cut $97,000 in education funding to prevent a tax increase.

The cuts eventually were averted when the school board agreed to use some of its surplus to cover the spending.
