OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School recently announced its top 10 graduates for the class of 2015.
Valedictorian, Camille Fontaine, is the daughter of Wilfred and Elizabeth Fontaine, of Belgrade. Fontaine has been a member of the soccer, track and tennis programs. She has also been a member of the Key Club, serving as treasurer and co-president. She has held office in the school’s government where she was elected as class vice president, class representative and this year served as executive secretary of the Student Council. Fontaine was named to the National Honor Society her junior year and received numerous school, district and state recognition. She plans to attend the University of Virginia and is undecided about her major, but believes it will be in the humanities field.
Salutatorian, Savannah Labbe, is the daughter of Jason and Hazel Labbe, of Belgrade. Labbe has participated in basketball and softball. She is an active member of Key Club. She spent numerous hours babysitting and enjoys reading, playing softball, and spending time with her family. Labbe plans to major in history at Gettysburg College in the fall.
Lucia Guarnieri is the daughter of Susan Holmes and Frank Guarnieri, of Belgrade. She has been a member of the school’s lacrosse program, spending her junior and senior seasons on the varsity roster. She received league and program recognition as a junior in the sport. Guarnieri also participated in indoor track her senior year and was a member of the Math team her final two years at MHS. She has been able to maintain high grades while participating in athletics and other clubs, and participating in dance and gymnastics. Shw has been involved with volunteering, giving much of her time to local farms, fairs and other services. Guarnieri plans to attend the University of Maine to major in biology in the fall.
Emily Gliniewicz is the daughter of Cheryl Bickford and Mark Gliniewicz. of Belgrade. She has been an involved member of the surrounding school community and has shown great diversity. She is dedicated to making her community better and does so through service. She has helped students in the school, was a member of the Girl Scouts of America, has helped at the local fire department in various capacities, and volunteered at MaineGeneral as an emergency department greeter. She has been an avid dancer at both Studio One for Dancers and at the Bossov Ballet Theatre. She has performed in numerous recitals and serves as an instructor for young dancers. She has received numerous academic awards; including multiple content area merit awards, and the Lawrence Technical University Junior Book award. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has maintained top grades, employment and an intense commitment to her dance. Gliniewicz plans to attend Mount Holyoke College in the fall to pursue a pre-medical degree.
MollyAn Killingbeck is the daughter of Katrine Scholl and Craig Killingbeck, of Rome. She is well rounded, participating in multiple sports, music and academic endeavors. She has been in the school’s soccer, indoor track and softball programs since her freshman year and was named captain in soccer and softball. She has held leadership positions in the school, serving as class secretary for one year and then treasurer for the other three. She has been in the music program throughout high school and has served on the Jazz Band and on the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Killingbeck has also served her community in numerous ways and has been an avid member of the school’s Key Club. She was named as a member of the National Honor Society her junior year and participated with the Math Team. She received the RIT Book Award and has also been the recipient of numerous other content area merit awards. She plans to attend Wellesley College and studying in either the mathematics or science fields.
Jill Twist is the daughter of Mark and Pamela Twist, of Belgrade. She is a gifted musician, mathematician, dancer, ski enthusiast and more. Twist plays the French horn and the trumpet; she is currently the president of the school band and the co-vice president of the Tri-M honors band. She has earned seats in the school jazz band, a distract band, and Mid Maine Youth Orchestra. She is a member of the math team. She has danced all four years of high school through a private studio. She is an avid skier and has also been a ski instructor; she earned her Professional Ski Instructor of America Level 1 certification. She has volunteered for numerous hours and is a member of the National Honor Society. Twist plans to attend the University of Maine to major in chemical engineering in the fall where she has been selected to receive the Pulp and Paper Foundation Scholarship.
Emma Walsh is the daughter of Eleanor Sabean, of Belgrade, and Peter Walsh, of Oakland. She has played lacrosse and soccer, has been part of the yearbook committee, she is a student council officer and in the National Honor Society. She has been an officer in the Key Club since freshman year and has logged numerous hours on numerous activities. Walsh has a diverse and full list of experiences and accomplishments. She has worked with a local senator and school administration to develop a day for High School Suicide Awareness. This is project exemplary to Walsh’s compassion, drive and desire to help others. Walsh plans to attend St. Thomas University in New Brunswick to study psychology.
Jonah Webb is the son of Karen and Timothy Webb, of Waterville. He is an avid soccer player and has been a mentor to younger students he coaches and referees for in several leagues. Webb was a captain as a senior for the MHS boys’ soccer team. Webb was an active member in drama productions, but his true passion is singing. He is a member of the school’s concert chorus as well as the men’s select chorus, show choir and an a capella group. He is a member of Key Club and the National Honor Society, he has logged many hours volunteering for numerous activities. Webb plans to take a gap year and travel abroad, participate in service projects, and hopes to become fluent in Spanish.
Cody Stevens is the son of Carolyn and David Stevens, of Oakland. He participated in Drama Club and has been a key member in numerous productions. Stevens is committed to the community; he is the President of the Oakland Sons of the American Legion. He has volunteered for projects that include float building, fundraising, public suppers and more. He attended Boys State as a junior. And works at Century Pools where he is a clerk and works in the warehouse. Stevens plans to attend the University of Maine to major in civil engineering in the fall and will.
Kyle Bernier is the son of Ron Bernier and Anne Baldwin-Bernier, of Belgrade. His interests and focus have primarily centered around computer and software engineering over the past four years. He attended Mid Maine Technical Center this year, and is certified in Apple technology and networking. This spring he was inducted into the 2014-15 National Technical Honor Society. Kyle has been an active volunteer in the community, and recently attained Eagle Scout status. He has also provided support to the MHS Robotics team as a mentor, judge, and volunteer for the First Lego League team events. In his spare time, he is an avid reader, and is working on building a 3-D printer. He also enjoys programming applications in Java and C+. Bernier plans to attend the University of Maine, Orono to study computer engineering in the fall.
