A Cornville man was arrested Monday after allegedly punching his mother in the face repeatedly, giving her a concussion and breaking several bones in her face, police said.

Thomas E. Roy, 34, was charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and criminal threatening, according to Chief Deputy James Ross, of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

A carpenter who was working on the roof of the West Ridge Road house in Cornville where the assault allegedly took place reported the incident to police.

Roy punched his mother during a dispute about a ride, Ross said. He said Roy’s grandmother was also at home at the time and tried to intervene. She was not assaulted, but her attempts to intervene were unsuccessful, Ross said.

Roy also threatened the carpenter with a tool and fled the house on foot, Ross said. Police were able to find him on Beckwith Road, and he was arrested at 6:48 p.m.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where she was treated for a concussion and broken facial bones, Ross said.

Roy has a previous address of Shortsville, New York, but has been living in the area more recently, Ross said. He is being held at the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail.
