An anonymous donor has given $200,000 to Unity College and is challenging others to match or exceed the donation.

The gift is one of the top five largest the school has ever received, according to a press release from the college.

It comes on the heels of another anonymous $200,000 donation last year.

“What’s striking about these gifts is they are largely coming unsolicited from local people who are very familiar with our history and our work,” said Director of Development and Alumni Relations Julie Briggs Cunningham in the release. “And they obviously like what they see or they wouldn’t be investing.”

In response to the donation, school officials are launching a fundraising campaign called Project Connect, by which they are hoping to raise another $400,000.

The money will be used to promote Unity College across the country and recruit students who are interested in environmental careers but who may not have heard of Unity, the release said.
