The Massachusetts Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on the body of a 59-year-old woman who fell off a cruise ship Friday night that was bound for Bar Harbor.
The Coast Guard, which helped with the recovery of the woman’s body about 10 miles off Cape Ann in Massachusetts, said the investigation has been turned over to the FBI.
FBI spokeswoman Kristen Setera, who was contacted Sunday evening, said her agency will have nothing further to say about the investigation until the autopsy has been completed.
The identity and hometown of the woman have not been released.
The Coast Guard said it received a distress call about 7 p.m. Friday reporting that a woman had fallen overboard from the 650-foot cruise ship, Seabourn Quest. The ship, which is based in the Bahamas, was headed for Bar Harbor when the woman went overboard.
