Portland writer Michael Paterniti has been nominated for a National Book Award for his collection of essays, “Love and Other Ways of Dying.” He is among 10 writers who received nominations in nonfiction on Wednesday morning. Finalists will be announced Oct. 14.
Paterniti has written several books, including “Driving Mr. Albert” and “The Telling Room.” His writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, Outside and GQ, among other magazines.
He’s received a National Endowment for the Arts grant and two MacDowell Fellowships. He also is co-founder of the Telling Room in Portland, a storytelling center.
He lives in Portland with his wife, Sara Corbett, and their children.
