FARMINGTON — The newly renovated Farmington McDonald’s will reopen Friday after being closed since late June for a total rebuild of the establishment, a McDonald’s representative said.
“The new building features the latest and the greatest, more modern and contemporary (McDonald’s) design,” Larry Johnston, senior area supervisor for McDonald’s, said.
The previous Main Street building was 42 years old, and after having numerous minor renovations over its lifetime, McDonald’s officials closed the location in June to tear down the structure and start from scratch to bring the Farmington branch up to date with the fast-food chain’s most recent structural and design elements, Johnston said.
The new building will feature a modernized dining and seating area, wi-fi access, dining room televisions and a double ordering station for takeout orders. Because of the increased volume of traffic that can be accommodated with two drive-thru stations as opposed to one, Johnston believes the Farmington McDonald’s will see a 30-40 percent increase in sales.
Given the branch’s location across from Hippach Field, McDonald’s will be making a donation to the Farmington Parks and Recreation Department as part of its grand reopening. A percentage of the branch’s sales made Friday, opening day, through Sunday will also be donated to the W.G. Mallett School, Johnston said, though he said they did not have an exact percentage at the time.
To further accompany the reopening, the Farmington McDonald’s will boast specials throughout this fall including 42-cent cheeseburgers Oct. 7 as a homage to the age of the former building. Johnston also said the branch will join a nationwide McDonald’s program that will make its breakfast menu available all day.
When the Farmington location closed in June, Johnston said that the majority of the branch’s employees transfered to McDonald’s locations in Jay and Rumford. Johnston expects 85 percent of those employees to return to the Farmington location upon its reopening this week. He said the Farmington location is still accepting applications to fill 15 to 20 additional positions given that he “expects the new location to be quite a bit busier.”
The Farmington McDonald’s is owned by The Napoli Group LLC, based out of Amherst, N.H. There will be an invite-only grand reopening reception from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
