FARMINGTON – The Pennsylvania man who was arrested last week after he brought his 15-year-old girlfriend to Rangeley waived extradition to allow Pennsylvania State Police to retrieve him from Franklin County custody, according to court documents.
Kyle Bedow, 18, of Grand Valley, Pennsylvania, was extradited on charges of interfering in the custody of a child and concealing the whereabouts of a child, which he will be arraigned on in Pennsylvania. He also pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal restraint Friday, court documents said.
Bedow is being held without bail at the Franklin County Jail until Pennsylvania State Police retrieve him, though court documents did not specify when that would be.
Bedow was arrested Wednesday in Rangeley on a Pennsylvania warrant that charged him with interfering with the custody of a child after a parent of his 15-year-old girlfriend, Reaghan A. Chase, reported her missing Sept. 29 from their Grand Valley home, Sheriff Scott Nichols said.
Franklin County Deputy Sandy Burke found the couple in Rangeley after an Oquossoc couple tipped police off because the couple was acting suspiciously. Burke pulled the car over on Main Street in Rangeley and arrested Bedow. Chase was taken into protective custody until her parents were able to drive to Maine to retrieve her Thursday, Nichols said.
Charles Brad Stokes and his wife, Kelley Stokes, of Oquossoc village, learned during a conversation they were having Wednesday that they had both spoken to the couple separately and became suspicious when the stories the couple had told them didn’t match.
The Stokes did a Google search of Bedow’s name and found two Pennsylvania news stories that said the girl was missing and that there were warrants out for Bedow’s arrest. They then called Franklin County dispatchers and alerted them that they had seen the couple in the Rangeley area.
