NEWRY – Sunday River has opened an expert trail.

Sunday River says cold weather over the past couple of days allowed it to make enough snow to open the Lock Mountain Triple Lift to provide access to the black diamond Upper T2 trail on Monday.

With the exception of 2009, this is the earliest Sunday River has opened in almost 20 years.

Sunday River is known for its snowmaking and it typically opens on or around Halloween, but it doesn’t always stay open. The resort’s full amenities typically come online in December.

Vermont’s Killington resort opened Sunday to season pass holders and express card holders and  to the general public  on Monday.
