There is hope. I just got back from a few days in Vermont.
The first thing we noticed as we walked around Montpelier, Stowe and other parts of the state was that no one talked on a handheld cellphone while they drove a motor vehicle.
Then we noticed signs pointing out the fact that driving while talking on a handheld cellphone is illegal in Vermont.
I could hardly believe it. It felt so much safer while walking, to see drivers actually operating a car without a phone attached to the side of their head.
The example set by Vermont shows that people actually can live without their cellphones.
I hope Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta, doesn’t give up trying to get a similar law passed in our great state of Maine.
