JAY — A Wilton woman and her grandson were injured Tuesday night in a single-car accident on Route 4 in North Jay, police said.
Evangeline Phillips, 57, of Wilton, and her 15-year-old-grandson, Trevon Goodwin, also of Wilton, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Jay police Detective Micheal Mejia said Wednesday.
The 2003 Ford Escort that Phillips was driving veered off the road and struck a pine tree, Mejia said, adding that police think Phillips fell asleep while driving.
Both Phillips and Goodwin, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered leg injuries in the accident, Mejia said.
Jay firefighters extricated Phillips from the vehicle and set up a landing zone for a LifeFlight helicopter to take her to the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston to be treated for her injuries. As of Wednesday afternoon, her condition was listed as fair, according to a hospital spokesman.
Goodwin was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by a NorthStar ambulance. A request for information about his condition was not returned immediately Wednesday.
The accident was reported around 9:51 p.m. near Greenridge Way. Jay police Chief Richard Canton IV and Officer Dylan Rider responded to the accident.
