BELGRADE — The town is seeking bids on six properties acquired through the tax foreclosure process. Sealed bids are due by noon Dec. 31 at the Town Office.

A seventh property, on Oakland Road, was removed from the list last week after Terrance Burton, owner of a neighboring property, came to the Board of Selectpersons meeting with information indicating he had been given a quit-claim deed to the property by owner Michael Howe. Burton had put a lien on the property since he had paid property taxes for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, for a total of $5,667.61.

At the meeting, Burton said he would pay the remaining $3,886.06 this week to bring it up to date.

The letter says the home is in disrepair and noted that it was the subject of a break-in several years ago, when thieves stole pipes and stripped the wiring.

Selectmen agreed to Burton’s proposal. He said he planned to improve the home so his son could move in.

The remaining properties up for sale are at 2 A&B Riley Drive, 272 Oakland Road, 44 Hoyt Island, 144 Knowles Road, 377 Augusta Road and 746 Smithfield Road.

Full descriptions of the properties as well as bidding requirements are available at the Town Office.

A notice on the town’s website indicates the bids “may be awarded” at the Jan. 5 meeting of the selectpersons, and the town has the right to reject all bids.

The successful bidder has 30 days to pay the town in full for the property. If that doesn’t happen, the property is awarded to the person who submits the next-highest bid, according to the town’s policy.
