Recycled Shakespeare Company will celebrate Christmas and the New Year with interactive dinner theater “Madcap Madrigal IV,” set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at REM Forum, 93 Main St. The venue is handicapped accessible.
The dinner theater is based on the concept of the medieval/renaissance madrigal feast this evening is a madcap interpretation of Elizabethan Christmastime festivities.
This year’s show will be an adaptation of the comedic Wakefield Play, Second Shepherds’ Play, written in the 1500s. This play tells the story three shepherds and a local fool who have to figure out what happened to their lost sheep. Medieval mystery plays reflected on the nativity story, often placing the birth of Jesus in their time period, not 1500 years prior.
As always, the Madcap Madrigal is written specifically for Recycled Shakespeare Company, so it is a one-of-a-kind production and will include some traditional songs as well as well-known favorites. The players are all local folks who are part of the community cast of RSC.
Costumes are not required, but RSC encourages participants to be creative with their closets and put together Medieval/Renaissance style costumes from their own robes and jewels to add to the scene.
RSC offers free community theater for all and this is their only fundraising performance.
Tickets cost $20 per person and include an era accurate five course meal as well as the play, all set in a castle-like atmosphere.
Tickets must be purchased in advance, to order tickets, call 314-8607 or email emilyrowdenfournier@gmail.com
