HALLOWELL — Fire crews from Hallowell, Augusta, Farmingdale and Manchester responded Thursday to a report of a structure fire shortly after 8 p.m. at 138 Town Farm Road, a two-story wood frame building.

Hallowell Fire Chief Michael Grant said the fire broke out in one of the apartments on the building’s second floor.

No one was home in the apartment where the fire started. Grant said the tenant in the other second-floor apartment didn’t hear a smoke alarm but noticed the smoke, called 911 and left the building.

When firefighters arrived, flames were showing from the second floor and the apartment was fully involved in fire.

Grant said the occupant wasn’t at home but arrived home to find the fire in progress.

The fire was contained to the apartment where it started and was knocked down in about an hour. A dog found in the burning apartment was being given oxygen.

Although no cause has been determined, Grant said he thinks it was electrical in nature. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is expected to examine the fire scene Friday.

Town Farm Road is west of and roughly parallel to Interstate 95.

According Hallowell property records, the property is owned by Violette Revocable Trust, based in Manchester.
