Augusta police are looking for a man they say robbed a Riverside Drive convenience store at gunpoint on Tuesday.
Lt. Christopher Massey said nobody was hurt in the holdup at C&S Market at 785 Riverside Drive, but the robber demanded money while threatening the male clerk with a weapon.
“It’s either a rifle or a shotgun,” Massey said.
The robber was given all the money in the cash register and fled to a car in the parking lot. He sped north on U.S. Route 201, also known as Riverside Drive, toward Vassalboro.
Massey said police converged on the area but were unable to find the car.
There were no customers in the store, but Massey said a female employee hid behind the counter during the robbery.
Massey said the holdup occurred a little before 8 p.m., during the height of a snowstorm, which hampered the search.
The robber, a white man about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slim build, was wearing a bandanna over his face, Massey said.
The suspect drove away in a dark sedan.
“Luckily, no one was injured during the incident,” Massey said.
He asked anyone with information about the case to contact Augusta police Detectives Nathan Walker or Chris Blodgett at 626-2370.
