Nine days after state police discovered the remains of a full-term baby boy in a garage next to a mobile home on Norridgewock Road in Fairfield, the police investigation in the case continues.
“The death remains under review and there is no timetable we are working under,” Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, said Wednesday in an email.
The body of the baby, found Jan. 11, was examined last week by the state medical examiner’s office, which also conducted tests on the remains.
The baby’s parents, Kayla Stewart, 20, and Nicholas Blood, 25, lived in the mobile home next to the garage at 457 Norridgewock Road with their toddler, a girl, McCausland said last week. Norridgewock Road is Route 139.
Detectives were called to the home Jan. 10 and spent three days searching the house, the garage and two cars parked there, gathering evidence. McCausland would not say at the time why police were called there, but he said Stewart and Blood were interviewed and were cooperating with police.
The first information in the case was released Jan. 12, when McCausland reported police were investigating the “remains from a recent pregnancy” that they discovered in the garage. He wouldn’t say whether the remains were fetal or a full-term pregnancy.
The remains were taken on Jan. 11 to the medical examiner’s office. On Jan. 13, McCausland reported that the remains were those of a full-term baby boy.
The next day, he said occupancy of the home was returned to Stewart and Blood the evening of Jan. 13.
