OAKLAND — An Oakland man was arrested late Wednesday after police went to his home on North Second Rangeway in response to a report of a domestic violence situation, and the man fled his home before an officer caught him behind the house.
Jacob Burton was charged with domestic violence assault and violation of a protective order and was being booked around 8:30 p.m., according to Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert, who was at the scene.
Burton’s age was not immediately available.
“We responded and the subject had firearms in the residence,” Stubbert said. “We set up a perimeter and about a half hour, 45 minutes later, a Waterville officer caught him outside, behind his residence.”
Oakland police had requested assistance from Waterville police, who arrived shortly after the incident was reported after 7 p.m. Stubbert said Oakland police Officer David Savage was the first to arrive at the scene. Six Oakland officers, including Stubbert and police Chief Mike Tracy, and five or six Waterville officers were at the scene, according to Stubbert.
He said Burton was not cooperative.
“Nobody required medical attention,” Stubbert said.
Just before 8:30 p.m., Stubbert and two other law enforcement officials were seen carrying firearms out of the house and placing them in a vehicle.
North Second Rangeway is a street off First Park Drive, which is off Kennedy Memorial Drive near the Waterville city line. North Second Rangeway runs parallel to Kennedy Memorial Drive.
North Second Rangeway, which was snowy and dark and did not appear to have street lights, is dotted with homes on either side of the road.
