High wind knocked out power to thousands of residents in central Maine Sunday afternoon.
Central Maine Power reported at around 6 p.m. that weather cutting a swath through several counties left more than 16,000 people without electricity.
The National Weather Service reported wind at 20 to 25 mph with gusts at more than 40 mph at the time CMP reported the outages.
The utility reported that 3,525 customers were without power in Lincoln County, 5,924 were without power in Kennebec County, 4,588 were without power in Somerset County, and 2,041 were without power in Waldo County.
Wires and trees were reported down throughout those counties and elsewhere.
By 8:30 p.m. the number of customers without power in those counties had dropped to approximately 4,200.
