Fayette’s Budget Committee and Board of Selectmen and School Board will hold a joint meeting 6:30 p.m. April 28 at Fayette Central School regarding the school department’s budget, which is expected to be finalized that night.
The School Board also will discuss the search for a new superintendent and a new principal. Both Superintendent Michael Cormier, who worked part-time for the department, and Ann Pike, who devoted 70 percent of her time to the principal’s job, submitted their resignations, which are effective June 30, 2016.
School Board Chairman Elaine Wilcox said Thursday that both individuals, who have worked for Fayette for two years, are retiring. Wilcox also said the board has recommendations to make about those positions, but she did not want to reveal them prior to that meeting.
Both the superintendent and principal jobs are based at Fayette Central School, which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade pupils.
The April 28 joint meeting date is just prior to the finalizing of the warrant for the upcoming annual Town Meeting, set for June 18.
Selectmen are expected to finish the warrant May 2.
In the meantime, Fayette Town Manager Mark Robinson said Wednesday that no one has yet taken out papers to run for the three-year seat on the school board being vacated by Alanna Stevenson. By Friday, four people had taken out nominating petitions to run for two selectmen’s seats being vacated by Mary Wright and Ken Morrison.
By Wednesday, completed petitions were returned by Richard Davidson of Baldwin Hill Road and Robert Weimont of Fellows Cove Road.
Nominating petitions with 25 signatures of registered voters in Fayette must be returned to the Town Office by May 2 in order to be listed on the June 14 ballot.
