Lakewood Theater will kick off its 116th season on May 21, National Armed Services Day, with a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization Curtains Up Enterprises. Proceeds will help modernize and add capital improvements to this historic venue. The show is being written and produced by Josh Hunt Entertainment with sound and lights engineered by Mike Davis, pro-light and sound. The one night only performance is a musical timeline review of country music from the decades of the 80s and 90s. The show will begin at 8 p.m. with a buffet starting between 5:30 to 6 p.m.

The cast: Josh Hunt (producer/performer), Nancy Carbone, Joel Dupre, Erica Davis, John Hodgdon, Marji Sylvester, Lisa Daniello, Brian and Donna Paradis, Mike Turner and Susan Bachelder.

The show will feature at least one song from every year through the two decades. The first act will feature songs from the 80s by George Strait, Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys, along with The Judds and will crescendo to a performance of God bless the USA before the curtain falls for intermission. The second act features the rise of Garth Brooks and other artists like Brooks & Dunn, John Michael Montgomery and Reba McEntire. The stage plot will feature a projection screen that will show pictures from the national artists’ tour as their songs being performed. With more than 40 songs and a band that has a combined experience totaling almost over a century this is sure to be one of the most memorable starts to the theater’s history.

“Money Matters”

Counterfeiters, a Contessa and a geriatric chick chaser!

The house has been sold. Hypochondriac George and his humorless daughter Annie must move and must abandon the basement where for 10 years they have been producing counterfeit $20 bills. The new owner, Bud “the Stud” Davis — a geriatric chick chaser — plans to create a retirement home for women. They cannot move the printing press so Annie and George enlist the aid of Annie’s former sorority sister actress Charmaine Beauregard and their neighbor Contessa Marilena, a flamboyant psychic (aka the Romanian fruitcake) to convince Bud that the house is unsuitable because it is haunted. haos ensues. During a seance two ghosts appear. Charmaine recognizes Bud as an old flame. Bud attempts to put a move on all three women. George finds himself pursued by Charmaine, while falling for the Contessa.

“Last Round-Up of the Guacamole Queens”

The Southern fried comedy is the final saga in the soap-opera lives of Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette — the Verdeen cousins of Sweetgum, Texas. Before their old high school is demolished, the cousins are determined to produce the ultimate high school reunion. But they have a bushel of obstacles to overcome before they can pull off this miracle: a funeral, a TV on-screen cat fight, a self-righteous aunt, a randy uncle in love with octogenarian sisters, an old flame with an evil hand puppet, and a contaminated crime scene. The reunion will conclude with the announcement of the final and forever Guacamole Queen. Chaos is side-splittingly achieved.
