NORTH ANSON — Ashley Emery went 3 for 4, including a key RBI single in a five-run seventh inning, and the Madison softball team hung on for a wild 7-6 victory over rival Carrabec in a Mountain Valley Conference game Monday afternoon.
The Bulldogs and Cobras were tied 0-0 before each team plated two runs in the sixth inning.
Madison (13-0) then scored five runs in the top of the seventh, with winning pitcher Madeline Wood contributing with an RBI double. Kayla Bess also had an RBI double in the frame.
Carrabec (9-5), however, did not go away quietly, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within a run. Sam Lebeau, Lexie Cowan and Liberty Chestnut all had RBI singles in the seventh for Carrabec.
Wood ended the rally and the game when she fanned Mikayla Willette.
Aly LeBlanc went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs. Cowan and Chestnut each drove in two runs for Carrabec.
LAWRENCE 6, BRUNSWICK 3: Hunter Mercier and Haley Holt each had two hits as the Bulldogs prevailed in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game in Fairfield.
Lawrence (4-10) scored four runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Lilly Herrin earned the win.
Brook Borter doubled for Brunswick (2-12).
LINCOLN 6, ERSKINE 4: Kortney McKenna had two singles to spark Lincoln (7-8) to the KVAC B win in South China.
Mallory Chamberlain had three singles for Erskine (8-6) while Harley Denning had two singles.
WINSLOW 10, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 1: Jenna Petrovic homered and scored two runs, while Paige Veilleux homered and drove in a pair to lead the Black Raiders to the KVAC B win in Winslow.
Liz Pullen had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Winslow (12-1). Hillary Libby struck out seven to go along with seven strikeouts and six walks to pick up the win.
Mikala Holt scored the Spruce Mountain (5-9) run.
BASEBALL
SKOWHEGAN 7, MT. BLUE 2: Kyle Dugas belted a home run, double, single and had two RBIs to lead the Indians to the KVAC A win in Farmington.
Issac Witham added three singles for Skowhegan (8-6). Brendan Curran earned the win, tossing a five-hitter.
Mt. Blue fell to 2-12.
MADISON 6, CARRABEC 2, 8 innings: Eric Wescott had an RBI single in a four-run eighth inning and the Ryan Emery had the game-winning RBI with a fielder’s choice as the Bulldogs rallied past the Cobras in North Anson.
Emery pitched four inning in relief of Chase Malloy to earn the victory, striking out three and allowing five hits.
Carrabec (6-8) led 2-1 in the seventh but Madison (12-2) forced extra innings when Jordan Hadley hit an RBI single.
Ty Green went 4 for 4 to pace Carrabec.
LAWRENCE 9, BRUNSWICK 8: Jacob Bickford doubled home Josh Dow with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Bulldogs to the comeback win in Fairfield.
Derek Bowen had a pair of doubles for Lawrence (8-6), and J.T. Nutting added two hits, as well.
Braden Ballard came on in relief in the sixth inning to earn the win on the mound.
Thomas Hanson had three hits, including a double, for Brunswick (2-12).
ERSKINE 4, LINCOLN 3: Luke Peabody had an RBI single to bring home the tying run and he later scored on an error for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Eagles prevailed in a KVAC B game in South China.
Zack Glidden allowed one run in three innings of relief of Dylan Presby to earn the victory for Erskine (11-3).
Hunter Williams homered for Lincoln (5-10).
WINTHROP 15, MT. ABRAM 2, 5 innings: The Ramblers scored 13 runs over the first three innings en route to the MVC victory in Winthrop.
Greg Faye had three hits for Winthrop (5-8), while Jacob Hickey had a pair of hits. Spencer Steele homered for the Ramblers. Bennett Brooks struck out three for the win.
Mt. Abram is 0-13.
WINSLOW 10, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 6: Ben Smith went 4 for 5 to pace Winslow’s 15-hit attack and the Raiders rolled to the KVAC B victory.
Smith also drove in a pair of runs for the Black Raiders. Jake Trask, Ryan Gagnon, Trenton Bouchard and Spencer Miranda added two hits apiece for Winslow (12-1). Chris Parker had three hits including a double for the Phoenix (5-9).
BOYS LACROSSE
WINSLOW 12, LINCOLN 4: Jacob Houghton scored four goals and assisted on another, and Jimmy Fowler had three goals and four assists to lead the Black Raiders to the KVAC B win in Newcastle.
Sam Lambrecht scored twice for Winslow (5-4). James Raymond, Hunter McCaslin and David Sellwood each added a goal.
Nick Gurney made seven saves to preserve the victory.
GIRLS LACROSSE
BOOTHBAY 11, LAWRENCE 1: Jackie McLoon scored five goals to lead host Boothbay.
Cassie Poli scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs (0-10), assisted by McKenna Rogers. Emma Harrison made 20 saves for Lawrence.
WINSLOW 13, LINCOLN 5: Heather Kervin scored seven goals to lift the Black Raiders to the win in Newcastle.
Sabrina Jandreau added four goals for Winslow (2-8) while Sarah Stevens chipped in two. Hannah Grenier made six saves.
Mackenzie Beaudoin, Lorin Gildersleeve, Brinley Harrison, Margaret Weiss and Lucy Williams each scored for Lincoln (2-9).
