CARTHAGE — A New Hampshire man is being sought by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly breaking into a market on Wednesday in Carthage.
Matthew Haines, 23, of Farmington, New Hampshire, allegedly smashed the front door of Bradbury’s Market and Diner and stole store items, Sheriff Scott Nichols said Friday.
New Hampshire has issued three warrants for Haines’ arrest, Nichols said, though he could not disclose what charges were included in the warrants. On Monday, Haines walked away from a prerelease center in New Hampshire.
The sheriff’s office is searching the Carthage area actively and thinks Haines might be hiding in the woods. Nichols said Haines has relatives in the area who own a camp in Carthage.
Police received a report of the burglary around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday from a passer-by who noticed the market’s front door was smashed. Witnesses led police to identify Haines as their primary suspect.
Nichols said Haines was seen last wearing a green sweatshirt and red shorts. Nichols said anyone with information about Haines’ whereabouts should contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Haines is not believed to be dangerous, Nichols said.
