A St. Albans woman was arrested and a Vassalboro man was issued a summons on felony theft charges after a search warrant of the woman’s home Friday morning by Farmington police and Somerset County sheriff’s deputies.
Farmington police Detective Mark Bowering said Tori L. Gifford, 38, of St. Albans, and Anthony Nigro, 35, of Vassalboro, are charged with class C felony theft of more than $2,000 worth of electronics and pet supplies from the Farmington Wal-Mart store on Route 4.
“We executed a search warrant out in St. Albans on ongoing theft cases at our Wal-Mart,” Bowering said. “We found probably thousands of dollars’ worth of items that have been stolen.”
Bowering said the electronics included things such as a surveillance system and tablet computers. That, along with pet supplies, he said, allegedly were intended for resale.
Gifford was arrested on a probation violation and issued a summons on two class C felony theft charges, each punishable by up to five years in prison. Nigro was issued a summons to appear in court on two class C felony theft charges.
Bowering said the thefts are alleged to have happened between June 1 and June 7 on at least two separate occasions.
The charges Friday are not the first for Gifford and Nigro. They were arrested together by police responding to a shoplifting complaint in July 2014 at Kohl’s on Stephen King Drive in Augusta. They were each charged with theft and violating conditions of release.
In October 2014, Gifford, then of Waterville, was given a three-year jail sentence for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer on July 24 in Augusta. The sentence was suspended, to be served concurrently with a Cumberland County sentence, followed by two years of probation, according to newspaper archives.
