HALLOWELL — The Harlow Gallery has announced a raffle fundraiser in partnership with Hallowell artist Christopher Cart. The winner will receive a custom painting by Cart of either a portrait of one or two people, or a painting of a home or business (winner’s choice.)
Tickets cost $25 each and only 600 will be sold. The drawing will take place during Hallowell’s Woodstock Festival on Sunday, Aug. 14, according to a news release from the gallery. Tickets can be purchased at the Gallery, 160 Water St., Cart’s studio at 3 Page St., also in Hallowell or online at harlowgallery.org/art-raffle/. If purchased online, ticket stubs will be mailed.
According to the release, the winner of the raffle will work directly with the artist to determine the subject, media and size of the artwork. Cart works in oil, acrylic, watercolor and more. The painting can no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet or 1,296 square inches with dimensions variable, and no smaller than 11 inches by 14 inches or 154 square inches.
If the subject (people, home or business) is within a one-hour drive of Hallowell, the winner can arrange a sitting or en plein air session, otherwise the artist can work from high resolution photographs. The winner can expect the finished painting by the end of the year. Timing will depend on factors including the subject, media, size and weather. Special requests outside of these guidelines are subject to approval by the artist and may require additional payment.
Raffle proceeds will be used to pay the artist for his work, and to support arts programs at the gallery. The purchase of raffle tickets is not considered a deductible expense according to the IRS.
