FARMINGTON — A downed transmission line was the cause of a power outage Tuesday that affected more than 13,000 Central Maine Power Co. customers in Franklin County.

After conducting an aerial inspection of the company’s transmission lines in the southern Franklin County area Tuesday afternoon, CMP crews discovered a cross-arm pole had broken that caused a transmission line to go down, CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice said Wednesday.

The downed pole was in an area where transmission lines run over an open field in Farmington, out of sight from the street, Rice said. Crews were able to fix the line without interrupting service to customers, she said.

The outage, reported shortly before noon Tuesday, left 13,600 customers in the Franklin County area without power for about a half-hour. Reports on Tuesday said power was restored around 1:13 p.m., but on Wednesday Rice said power actually was restored at 12:13 p.m.

The outage affected customers in Avon, Chesterville, Farmington, Freeman Township, Highland Plantation, Kingfield, Lexington, New Portland, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Salem Township, Strong, Temple, Vienna and Wilton.
