A Raymond man accused of sexually assaulting two juvenile girls was arrested Tuesday evening and is now being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland on $5,000 cash bail.
Anthony Shawn Pierson, 21, was charged by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office with felony counts of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact and a misdemeanor count of allowing minors to consume alcohol.
The sheriff’s office was called to the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford on Tuesday evening regarding a juvenile girl who reported she had been sexually assaulted in a Raymond residence. She told a detective that she had met Pierson online and had agreed to meet him in person, according to the news release from the sheriff’s office.
“The male took the victim to his residence in Raymond, where she fell asleep and awoke to the suspect forcing himself upon her,” the news release states.
Authorities arrested Pierson on the gross sexual assault charge in connection with the incident on Tuesday. He was also charged in connection with a sexual assault case that was reported in June by another juvenile girl.
Gross sexual assault is a Class A felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Unlawful sexual contact is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.
Pierson is scheduled to make his initial appearance in the Cumberland County Courthouse in Portland on Friday to face the charges.
