Two people were injured when a 21-year-old man led Buxton police on a high-speed chase Monday night.

Police say Jon Doucette of Westbrook was arrested after a chase that ran multiple cars off the road and ended with the rear-ending of a minivan near Bonny Eagle Middle School.

Doucette was arrested on charges of eluding a police officer and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, both Class C crimes. He also was charged with multiple misdemeanor traffic offenses and civil traffic violations.

The chase began when an officer saw Doucette’s Chevy Silverado pickup truck drive past a line of cars at a stop sign at Scarborough Corner without stopping. Police said the driver reached speeds of nearly 100 mph after refusing to pull over for the officer.

Police said Doucette took off down Long Plans Road (Route 22) and Officer Warren Day tried to stop him after seeing the erratic driving. Day stopped the pursuit when it became unsafe, police said.

Officer Galen Hall was trying to deploy a spike mat on Long Plains Road when Doucette drove at him, coming withing 5 feet of the officer.

Police say Doucette struck a car on Long Plains Road and did not stop. As police tried to find Doucette, they received a report that his truck had hit a second car on Saco Road near Bonny Eagle Middle School.

That collision disabled Doucette’s truck and he ran off, police said. Buxton and Maine State Police, along with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, used police dogs to track Doucette.

Doucette was found a short time later walking on Route 112. He was armed with two knives, according to police.

Buxton Fire and Rescue treated two people who received minor injuries in the collision.

“I’m disturbed by the amount of chaos this man caused,” Buxton police Chief Troy Cline told WCSH-TV after the arrest. “I’m disturbed by the lack of regard for anybody’s life.”

Doucette is being held on $5,000 cash bail at York County Jail in Alfred.

Police have yet to determine how much damage Doucette caused.
