A home in Gray was damaged by fire Thursday evening, but should still be livable, Fire Chief Kurt Elkanich said.
Five area fire departments responded to the fire at 52 Colley Hill Road. Elkanich said the fire appears to have started in the basement of the two-story residence.
The owners, a couple, made it out safely, but there was extensive fire and smoke damage in the basement.
The couple owned four cats. “Two are still hiding,” the chief said.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause of the fire, which was reported about 5:50 p.m.
