State Police say alcohol and speed contributed to a car crash in Bowdoin late Wednesday night that injured three people.
A pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Robert Mathews Jr. of Bath overturned near Route 138 around 10:30 p.m. after he lost control on a curve in heavy fog, according to State Police. Mathews and a passenger, 16-year-old Emily Freeman of Topsham, were thrown from the cab as the truck overturned several times and came to rest upside down.
The roof of the 2001 Chevrolet was wedged against a group of trees, police said.
A second passenger, Caleb Donaldson, 19, of Woolwich, had to be freed from the wrecked truck by a team of firefighters from Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Topsham. All three were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with multiple injuries, police said.
There was no indication anyone in the car was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
The conditions of the three injured people were not known Thursday morning.
Troopers say charges will be filed against Mathews after the district attorney’s office is consulted.
