A Maine State Police trooper from Lyman has been put on paid administrative leave after being charged with criminal mischief in Saco early on the morning of Sept. 2.
Trooper Michael D. Lane, 27, was issued a summons at 2 a.m. at an address on Elijah James Drive, Saco Police Deputy Chief Cory Huntress said Thursday.
Lane was put on administrative leave shortly thereafter, said state police spokesman Steve McCausland.
Lane has been on the force for two years and is posted at Troop A, which patrols York County, McCausland said.
Huntress said he did not know the details of why Lane was charged or what he was doing in Saco before police got involved.
Lane is expected to appear in Biddeford District Court on Oct. 5 to answer the charge. Criminal mischief is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of $2,000 or both. According to state law, someone is guilty of criminal mischief if they intentionally, knowingly or recklessly damage or destroy someone else’s property.
