A Hallowell resident and former sports writer for the Portland Press Herald will be inducted into the Maine Press Association Hall of Fame next month.
Steve Solloway will be inducted Oct. 29 at a luncheon during the press association’s fall conference at the DoubleTree hotel in South Portland, according to a press release from the association.
Solloway was one of the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram’s best-known writers for his 25 years as a sports columnist. He was sports editor of the Kennebec Journal from 1975 to 1984 before moving to the Maine Sunday Telegram.
A true storyteller, Solloway covered many of Maine’s biggest sporting events and personalities over four decades, including the University of Maine’s national hockey championships and the Lawrence High School basketball star Cindy Blodgett.
At the ceremony next month, the association will also induct Rex Rhoades, retired executive editor of the Sun Journal in Lewiston, and Hugh Bowden, who worked for more than 50 years at newspapers in Down East Maine, according to the association.
