A group of six students and an instructor from the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences in Hinckley volunteered to help Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan close up portions of its vegetable garden.

The students, Kolby Hibbard, Gabriel Lindsay, Izabel Wyman, Darrin LeBarge, Brennen Boulette and Peter Rotondi, picked tomatoes, beets, winter squash and cabbage, which were taken in to store in the facility’s kitchen, then pulled up the spent plants and weeds.

The facility has a large garden that consists of 10 individual sections, each 7-feet wide and about 50-inches long, that provide the facility with fresh produce for their residents to enjoy throughout the summer months.
