NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. — Even amongst the best in the region, Tucker Barber and Jacob Hickey found a way to impress.

Barber and Hickey ran their way to top-20 finishes at the New England championships Saturday at Ponaganset High School. Connecticut’s Staples High School (72 points) won the boys’ title, followed by La Salle Academy (Rhode Island, 103), Danbury (Connecticut, 158), Champlain Valley Union (Vermont., 183) and Bishop Hendricken (Rhode Island, 216).

Champlain Valley Union won the girls’ race with 121 points, followed by Souhegan (New Hampshire, 163), Pinkerton (New Hampshire, 227), La Salle (234) and Bishop Guertin (New Hampshire, 238).

Mt. Blue’s Barber had the best individual result, finishing 12th in 15:56. Winthrop’s Hickey was a few spots back, coming in 20th at 16:01. The two earned their spots in the regionals with stellar efforts in the state races. Barber won the boys’ Class C race in Belfast, notching a time of 15:47, while Hickey was 10th at 16:10.
