The administrator of Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset who was arrested in October for allegedly driving under the influence has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
An attorney for Mark Westrum entered the plea on his behalf before his first scheduled court appearance Monday. Neither Westrum nor his attorney was required to appear in court.
Westrum was arrested about 9:45 p.m. Oct. 8 on Front Street in Bath after an officer saw him driving without his headlights on, said Bath police Lt. Robert Savary.
After police administered roadside field sobriety tests, they arrested Westrum and took him to the station, where he was administered a Breathalyzer test. Savary would not release Westrum’s blood alcohol level, but the legal limit is 0.08.
Westrum was cooperative throughout the arrest and was released on personal recognizance, Savary said.
He was placed on administrative leave following the arrest, but the precise status of his employment with the jail was unclear Tuesday. Mary Trescott, who chairs the Lincoln and Sagadahoc Multicounty Jail Authority’s executive committee, did not return an email for comment and could not be reached by phone.
Westrum’s next court date has not been set.
