AUGUSTA — A 42-year-old Augusta man and a 26-year-old Rochester, New York, man were arrested Wednesday morning on drug trafficking charges after heroin, crack cocaine and $700 in cash were discovered at a home on 117 Bridge St., police said in a news release.

Lawrence Murphy, of Augusta, was charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs after police officers from several agencies executed a search warrant at the Bridge Street home, said Deputy Chief Jared Mills, of the Augusta Police Department. Murphy’s bail was set at $10,000 cash.

Christopher Williams, of Rochester, was arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in heroin and aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine, police said. His bail was set at $25,000 cash.

Members of the Augusta Police Department, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Maine State Police and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant and made the arrests. Upon entering the Bridge Street home, they found 1.8 grams of crack cocaine, 1.8 grams of heroin and $700 in cash, Mills said.

Police launched the investigation after receiving a tip from the public, Mills said.

After the arrest, Augusta code enforcement officers also went to the home because of code violations discovered by police that affected the safety of the building, Mills added.
