Gardiner business up for award
The Gardiner Food Co-op & Cafe is a quarterfinalist for the 2016 Independent We Stand Independent Small Business of the Year or Indie Award, according to a press release from the co-op.
The Gardiner Food Co-op & Cafe is an up-and-coming Food Co-op located at 269 Water St. in Gardiner, open since May 31, 2015.
“We take pride in being a stimulus for a happy, healthy, and welcoming community,” said General Manager Shawn Menard. “Our staff offers a positive experience for anyone. From an enlightening latte to a grocery bag full of wholesome, local products, you’re sure to feel right at home.”

Ninety Nine Restaurant raises money for shelter
The Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub in Augusta celebrated its 15th anniversary with team members, guests and members of the community on Nov. 15, with an event that generated over $600 for the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, according to a press release from the restaurant.
During the anniversary event, guests enjoyed a spirited game of trivia and participated in a commemorative ceremony that honored the restaurant’s longstanding team members. A percentage of the restaurant’s total net sales that entire day were donated to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. Ken Stinchfield, General Managing Partner of the Augusta Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub, proudly presented the check to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
“We are proud to celebrate 15 years of serving great food and drink to our guests and are passionate about giving back to the community in whatever way we can,” said Stinchfield. “We fully support the Kennebec Valley Humane Society and look forward to continuing that relationship for years to come.”
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust finishes food drive
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, which has a location in South China, concluded their 28th annual “Food for Good” community food drive on Nov. 18, according to a press release from the bank.
More than 4,850 food items and over $3,370 were collected for and delivered to local food pantries prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. These gifts helped fill Thanksgiving food baskets and stock the shelves of local food pantries for the winter months ahead.
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust also promoted the food drive on their Facebook page. For each “share” of one of the Bank’s “Food for Good” Facebook posts they donated one dollar to a local food pantry. Each of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s 14 branches also collected donations for the Food Drive and delivered them to their local food pantry for distribution. The food pantries that received these donations include: China Community Food Pantry, Mid-Coast Hunger Prevention Program, Whiting Food Pantry and Hampden Neighborhood Food Cupboard.
