A 60-year-old Falmouth woman was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland on Tuesday night with non-life-threatening injuries after her Ford Taurus drifted across the centerline and collided head-on with another passenger vehicle on Route 1 in Cumberland.

Cumberland police Sgt. David Young said police shut down the road for about 90 minutes after the crash, which happened in the vicinity of Route 1’s intersection with the Tuttle Road overpass ramp. The road reopened around 8 p.m.

Young said a 43-year-old Brunswick woman was driving the second vehicle, a Volvo station wagon. She and her passenger, a 68-year-old woman, were not injured. Young said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Firefighters had to extricate the Falmouth woman from the wreckage. A Cumberland ambulance crew took her to the hospital.
