FAIRFIELD — A car crash on Route 201 Friday afternoon sent five people, including Good Will-Hinckely students, to local hospitals.
The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Route 201, which is also known as Skowhegan Road, and was caused when the driver of a pickup truck struck a van carrying a driver and five students from Good Will-Hinckley, police said.
Fairfield Police Sgt. Matthew Wilcox said the van was headed south and attempting to turn into the Fairfield Antiques Mall when it was struck by the truck. The crash resulted in five having to go to the hospital for what was described by Fairfield Fire Capt. Michael Murphy as “minor to moderate” injuries.
Wilcox said a few passengers had abrasions to the head, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening. Wilcox said those injured reported feeling “internal pain,” so they were taken to area hospitals. Ambulances from Delta and Redington Fairview responded.
The crash backed up traffic for about half an hour in both directions Friday afternoon.
