A three-car crash Tuesday on U.S. Route 2 in Farmington left every vehicle disabled and each driver and passenger with minor injuries, police said.

The crash, which happened around 2:30 p.m. near Hight Chevrolet at 437 Wilton Road, was caused by a driver who appears to have fallen asleep at the wheel, said Bonnie Pomeroy, office manager at the Farmington Police Department.

Erik Dodge, 21, of Chelsea, was driving a 2005 Honda Accord north on the road when he reportedly fell asleep and crossed over to the southbound lane.

Nancy Hutchinson, 72, of Carthage, was driving a 2003 Honda Pilot in the southbound lane and tried to avoid Dodge’s car, veering to the side, but collided with the back end of his vehicle. Pomeroy said that collision then bounced Hutchinson’s car directly into the side of the third vehicle, a 2007 Ford Fusion traveling behind Dodge’s car that was driven by Nevada Daigle, 42, of Jay.

All three cars were towed, Pomeroy said, because they sustained “disabling damage.”

North Star Ambulance went to the scene and assisted all three drivers and one passenger, who was in Hutchinson’s car, who reported minor injuries. However, Pomeroy said it was unclear whether anyone was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
