Parents and staff will have the opportunity during a meeting Wednesday to hear from representatives of two companies responsible for testing the air quality and cleaning up three classrooms and the basement at Manchester Elementary School, Regional School Unit 38 Superintendent Donna Wolfrom announced.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Air Quality Management Services, Inc. performed air quality tests in three classrooms, and Octagon Cleaning and Restoration did the remediation of the school’s basement late last year after several staff members reported the presence of mold in the basement.
In a letter dated Nov. 28, 2016, Wolfrom said the bio-remediation assessment was completed Nov. 3 and showed levels of mold that needed remediation. The mold was apparently the result of flooding that occurred in the basement several years ago.
The air quality in the classroom above the tested area in the basement was found to be at a safe level, though the assessment showed the classrooms were dusty. A thorough cleaning of the three classrooms was completed over winter break.
Wolfrom said the remediation company assured the school district that students and the staff were safe from any exposure to the mold in the basement.
